Czech (čeština) is a West Slavic language and the official language of the Czech Republic. It is spoken by approximately 10 million people. Czech is closely related to Slovak, and the two languages are largely mutually intelligible.
Czech is written with the Latin alphabet augmented with diacritics, notably the háček (ˇ) used in letters like č, š, ž. The Czech language reform led by Jan Hus in the 15th century introduced many of these diacritics. Czech has a rich literary tradition and contributed the word 'robot' to the world through Karel Čapek's 1920 play R.U.R.
